1967-68 Toyota Corona 1600 GT Center Console Restoration
The Toyota Corona 1600 GT is a rare piece of JDM history—one that doesn’t always get the same attention as its Celica and Supra siblings. But for those who know, the Corona GT is a special machine, blending sportiness with Toyota’s bulletproof engineering.
When this center console came to us, it had seen better days. Decades of wear had taken their toll, and previous attempts at repair left it looking less than factory-original. Restoring it properly required more than just refinishing—it needed a process that would preserve its original shape, texture, and durability.
The Challenges: Aging Materials & Wear
Like many interior parts from this era, the Corona 1600 GT’s center console was made from a combination of hard plastic and vinyl-covered surfaces. Over time, these materials degrade, leading to:
Cracks and warping from heat exposure
Fading and discoloration of the vinyl
Peeling or separation at the seams
Textured surfaces wearing smooth
Our goal was to bring it back to factory spec while maintaining the structural integrity and original design.
The Just Dashes Restoration Process
To restore this Toyota Corona center console, we:
✅ Repaired any structural damage to the base to ensure long-term durability
✅ Refinished the textured surfaces to match the original look
✅ Re-wrapped the vinyl-covered sections using a thermo-vacuum process for an OEM-level finish
✅ Color-matched the console to blend seamlessly with the rest of the interior
Why the Right Process Matters
For classic restorations, accuracy is key—especially for rare models like the Corona GT. This isn’t a part you can just pull off a shelf. By using original-style materials and techniques, we ensured that this center console not only looks correct but will last for years to come.
