Bend OR show

The Classic Chevy Club of Central Oregon, an NSRA affiliate, has a nice thing going. After twenty-one years of experience they have perfected a show that draws entrants from most of the surrounding states. Approximately 500 pre-1974 cars and trucks, of all descriptions and styles, arrived in this cool city that was founded around the logging industry in the 1800's. The old logging highway, the Deschutes River, winds its way through the city, forming a large bend at one point. You guessed it!

The show is held the first weekend of August under Ponderosa Pine trees at Drake Park, which is right along the edge of the river in historic downtown Bend. It's usually a four-day event featuring lots of cruisin', street dancing, live radio broadcasts and TV coverage, raffles, great trophies and a scenic trip up Mount Bachelor. We didn't see the "Best of Show" award, but we did see the trophy, and if the winner was a closed street rod the trophy was going home UPS or tied across a fender!

The great American Northwest harbors some absolutely beautiful machinery and much of it was evident at this show. As most of us never get the opportunity to travel cross country just to attend a car show, the good folks at Just Dashes decided to bring it to you. If you need a place to go next August, make your reservations very early, and experience a flashback in Bend!

A Yenko clad blown '69 Chevelle is a knock out street machine. It ran as good as it looks and attracted plenty of attention. This beautifully restored vintage Jaguar roadster is a work of art. While we weren't there for the awards presentation, it must have taken home some gold!

Muscle cars dotted the field, and in our opinion this '69 440cid, Six Pack, four-gear Super Bee was the most outstanding example of restored muscle. A '37 Ford Flatback sedan called "4Crusn" towed a matching trailer. We call that cruisin' in style. Could that trailer be refrigerated?

With the Deschutes River in the background these two early Thirties Ford street rods basked in the Oregon sun. Beautiful homes lined the opposite bank of the river. How about a restomod '61 'Vette with late model fuel-injected small- block power? If you look above the can at the left you'll see the Best of Show trophy standing on the ground. The top is even with the tent!

This incredible Chevy woody surfer wagon got everyone's attention. It is beautifully detailed top, bottom and interior. Our vote for that huge BOS trophy, AND he has the vehicle to take it home. A highboy '33 Speedstar coupe sits on the ground. This sleek looking rod is definitely green, and so were we…with envy!

Already a winner, this '32 five-window coupe is powered by a highly detailed 327cid small-block sporting three two-barrel carbs. Love the treatment on the wheels. Under the shade of a Ponderosa Pine, these show attendees could sleep on site in their beautiful and comfy teardrop trailer. The craftsmanship is impeccable and the rear deck lid strut creative.

Mustangs are always show favorites and this red '71 Mach 1 was no exception. We just couldn't figure out why the trunk is open and the hood closed. Is there a big-block Chevy hiding in there? Another import restoration is this 1967 Volvo 1800S. It was completely restored to better than factory specs and dressed up with aftermarket wheels.
