The two mounting legs
closest to the windshield on the 1970 speaker
grille were approximately 1/4-inch longer
then the '71 thru '74 models. You can see
the difference as illustrated here. |
|
Measure the height of
your original '70 leg to determine an exact
length for your grille. Plus or minus a small
amount will not adversely affect the fitting
of the grille as you can adjust with the tightness
of the mounting screws. |
|
|
After measuring how
much material to remove, wrap a piece of tape
around the leg at the point of cutting. This
will give you an accurate location and a straight
edge to cut on. |
|
Using a detail saw with
a fine blade, cut along the edge of the tape.
The plastic is easy to cut and the whole job
should take only a very few minutes. Clean
up any rough edges with fine steel wool or
sandpaper. |
|
|
After trimming the legs
on your '70 model grille, fit it in the dash
pad and check your trim length. If any more
material needs to be removed, do it with sandpaper
rather than cutting any more with the saw.

|
When your 1970 thru
1974 speaker grille is ready for installation,
simply fasten it with your original screws
or replacements that match the factory threads,
length and Phillips head size. |
