A round piece of 1/8-inch chip board was fabricated to fit the crank hole. The fit must be almost perfect so that the vinyl is not pulled down into the space around the filler piece. Again a little sanding was required .

A special adhesive is used around the circumference of the hole to secure the chip board. After the initial application the filler is pushed flat with the surface and additional adhesive is applied.

The area where the circle was filled is now visible under the vinyl adhesive sprayed over the panel. The filled area is perfectly smooth with the original surface.

Here is the re-skinning process in action. The heated vinyl sheet (also with adhesive applied) is being pulled by vacuum down over the part completely covering the surface. It will be allowed to cool for a few minutes and removed for finishing.

A large piece of vinyl is heated in an oven and then suspended over the pad. The pad and it's platform come up from under the vinyl and at the same time all the air is sucked out from under the material. It forms to every shape and contour of the foam covered pad. The hot material is wiped down with cold water to complete the shrinkage of the vinyl. The finished product is flawless and ready for re-installation.
